A History of the Villages of Castor, Ailsworth, Marholm with Milton, Upton and Sutton.
This is the comprehensive story of five villages in the Nene Valley covering their history, people, places, flora and fauna. Different chapters, all written by local people, provide a depth of insight and wealth of detail on a wide range of topics from early Roman and Saxon history to more recent reminiscences of local characters and village life. The book features some fascinating illustrations and many previously unpublished photographs from local family collections.
The Book (A4 size, paperback, approx 400 pages complete with black and white photographs and colour plates) was launched at the Castor Summer Fete, 11 July, 2004, thanks to a grant from the Local Heritage Initiative, a partnership between the Heritage Lottery Fund, Nationwide Building Society and the Countryside Agency.
The book sold out by September and there will not be a reprint. However, the complete book is now available on CD Rom (as a high resolution .pdf) for the sum of £5.00 (plus 50p Post and Packing) and also available free on this site (as a low resolution .pdf).
